Q&A
theFOUND & NUNO MIKA
Q1:
Can you tell us a little about yourself? How long have you been engaged in media art and architectural design?
Thank you so much for inviting me this interview, it’s a pleasure to be part of theFOUND Digital Art Center. I’m from Portugal and started working with interactive installations in 2014 during my Masters in Architecture.
Q2:
About your work UN_BOUNDARIES. What do the different forms of light in the work represent?
UN_BOUNDARIES was a process to get INFINITY ROOM v3.0 my last art-installation questioning what the physical or digital limits of our spatial consciousness are today. Different forms of light and sound to explore human perception with interactive spaces. The idea is to create a conversation between human, technology and space, where the body movement is the input for all the happening.
Q3:
Most of your work is a combination of dots and dashes. How do you understand them and create them?
I really love them. When I imagine the world, or Universe in different scale I see dots and dashes. Physically, they exist but we can’t see them without technology, so with the software’s everything is possible and we can explore all of the scientific knowledge.
Q4:
In your work, what role does the computer play in its work?
The computer is my main tool. I use him to be connected to the globalization, then, to learn and of course to work. In media art is inevitable to use computers because software’s are the main tool to materialize something. Today with artificial intelligence we can see computers like a brain!
Q5:
How do you see the relationship between human and nature or technology? How did they inspire your work?
It’s a big question at this time. Technology has been connected with humans from all of their past, but humans are made by nature. The point is humans can develop technologies, mainly to reduce boring stuffs but obviously we have to embrace Nature, Human and Technology together.
Q6:
With the development of science and technology, what expectations do you have for new media art?
I expect the development of science and technology can create a better future more collaborative with multidisciplinary teams from all over the world in real-time. It’s easy to be connected and share knowledge from home. For us is awesome to find information so easily, by the away multidisciplinary is the main point of Media Art.
